With the release of the much prevised Amazon Kindle 2 which is meant to be better and sleeker than the original, you may be asking yourself whether you will have to buy the upgraded version or stick with the usual Kindle 1. If that’s the case then read on, this article will take you through the divergences among the two versions of this general eBook reader.
First just looking at the two machines you’ll see a lot of differences. The Kindle 2 is a lot slimmer than it is predecessor at only 9mm thick and while it weighs the same as before it’s now requiring little effort to hold and carry around.
The screen size is likewise the same at 600 x 800 but the new model has better graphical capablenesses so that you’ll now get 16 shades of grey rather than the four of the firstborn Kindle.
This makes the text on the screen more comfortable to read and rather sharp (less bleed into the screen). Of course the basi version still had good readability and at original glimpse you might not detect much of a difference, but after reading a lot of pages you’ll be grateful for the subtle crisper text. The background has likewise changed from a slight paper textured look in the firstborn to a smooth flat surface in the second.
While the Kindle 2 is meant to be more immediate at page turning and overall speed, we can’t say we noticed any significant divergence amongst the two, after all it was never like Amazon’s initial model was slow – it wasn’t.
The divergences that were substantial and sufficient to warrant taking into account an upgrade was the design changes in the newer model. The power switch is now conveniently at the top of the Kindle rather than the back which makes it much having little impact to turn it on and off. The volume buttons have also been moved to a rocker switch now on the right hand side of the reader (rather than the bottom).
The navigation system is now much more intuitive with the ‘next’ button sitting conveniently where your thumb rests so you may without apparent effort turn the page and it feels more natural.
Overall the deviations amid Amazon’s Kindle 1 and 2 are subtle but do improve your ebook reading experience. So it’s up to you whether you want the latest and greatest or don’t mind the older version for up to $100 cheaper.

Much better than I thought and worked first time By Sincerely Yours I have been leery of many screen protectors and from the reviews written by my fellow amazon reviewers. The beauty of the product is its simplicity of design and quality. There is a little blue cloth to wipe down your screen, then the screen protector is wedged between plastic sheet 1 and 2: peel and one side will have slight, ever so slight stickiness… Then roll slowly over the screen and use the little brown plastic tab to push the air bubbles out. Yep, there is a slight mm gap, but hell you are going to need that to peel it off eventually! It is part of the design and not a fault in the design! I am totally okay with the tiniest bubbles on a few of the corners as it does not affect the print. Yep, I am super glad that I got this screen protector (from dirt and not from too much pressure applying on it!). The anti glare factor, yes, noticed when led lights fall on it, it is much more matted, not that the kindle itself doesnt do a great job in the antiglare department. Well worth this non too expensive accessory.

Truly anti-glare, just a little small for the screen. By Sophia I was excited that the item truly does leave the screen more or less anti-glare. I have read my Kindle outside in the sun and didn’t notice any more glare than say sunlight off the pages of a book.
