5Great as long as you know what you’re buying.
By Scott
The first thing I should mention is that this is a decorative skin, which is basically a sticker, designed to improve the standard finish of your Kindle Touch. It is not a protective cover and has no protective abilities. It may absorb a few small scratches, but that is about it. It is a way to give a little flare to your Kindle Touch. The Decalgirl Kindle Touch skins are made of the exact same material as the Kindle Keyboard skins. It is basically glorified contact paper, although it has a stronger adhesive. I have this same skin for my previous generation Kindle Keyboard 3G, Free 3G + Wi-Fi, 6″ E Ink Display – includes Special Offers & Sponsored Screensavers. The first thing I noticed, is that, due to the lack of the physical keyboard, the Kindle Touch decal is much easier to put on. The Kindle Keyboard skin came with seven different stickers to apply. The Kindle Touch decal comes with two. Since you’re not trying to get it just right over the keyboard and on the side buttons, installation is much easier. I did have some very small bubbling, but you can smooth those out easily enough with your fingers. Once applied, the skin stays on the Kindle. I can’t comment on how long it will last from personal use with the Touch, but since it’s the same material as the previous generation’s decals, you should have no problem with it staying on. Over a year later and my decal on my Kindle Keyboard is still firmly applied and there is no curling or peeling. The decal looks beautiful on the Touch and really makes it stand out. The images are very high quality and have vivid brilliant colors. While it is possible to remove the decal to put another one on, I wouldn’t recommend doing it more than once, as I doubt you will get the same adhesion after applying it multiple times. It is not really designed to be removed. If you are ready to get rid of it permanently though, it peels off with zero damage to your Kindle.

Negatives:

Price – Yes, it is an expensive product, and I feel like it would really be more successful if it was 30% cheaper, but I don’t want my review to focus on price since that is ultimately up to the individual to decide if it is worth the expense to simply “dress up” their Kindle.

Coverage – Because the Kindle Touch has less front surface area than the Kindle Keyboard, this means you will see less of the decal. Remember this when deciding which one to buy. It works for decals like the Library, but for ones like “Flying Tree” and “Moon Tree,” you really can’t tell what is going on unless you look at the back of the Kindle. And if you have your Kindle in a cover 95% of the time like I do, it is almost a waste. The back images of these decals are so beautiful that it is a shame to have them covered up by the case. It would be really nice if there was a way to use custom screensavers with these decals, so you could extend the front image across the display when the Kindle is turned off. Unfortunately Amazon doesn’t let you do that.

If you don’t use a cover for your Kindle Touch, you will really be able to take advantage of these decals. If you do use a cover, take into consideration that you won’t see the back image most of the time, and decide if that is worth getting the decal for the small portion it covers on the front.

4Library Skin
By Sandman
The primary factor in buying a Skin was to create better contrast between the front rim and the screen of the Kindle Touch.
You’ll be surprised how much greater the text “pops” on the screen with a dark front rim versus the current light grey.

The library design is dark enough and not to distracting.
AMZ designers could have achieved the same effect by simply extending the current dark bevel along the outer edge, to the front rim.
The Nook choose this route and that’s why their screen initially looks a bit brighter.

4 stars (versus 5) for high cost.
Also, the Skin would benefit with a slightly more rubbery/tactile finish, for greater grip.

5LOVE THIS SKIN!!
By Betty M Broshears
My son got a Kindle Touch for Christmas. He wanted this skin, because it reminded him of Harry Potter. We put the skin on his Kindle today and it looks great, like the kindle came made with the skin stamped on it.
