In today’s world we receive so much info thru radio, television and multimedia experiences yet none of these avenues has the capacity to educate as the rudimentary skill of reading. When examining how well a nation is doing and how likely it is economic circumstance is improve so oftentimes the literacy rate is included. Often this figure is a reflectivity not only of instructional levels but has a follow on effect of economic power, government administration, corruption and health. When this figure is low the country is more likely to be an economic backwater, government is likely to be poor or a dictatorship, corruption widespread and a lack of universities, doctors and other experts. When one looks at countries in the African continent oftentimes the literacy rate is a good reflectiveness of quality of lifestyle. Countries that have not long back experience bettering economic fortunes have increased their populations education level. The easiest way to educate any problem is to instruct them the skill of reading. If you may read you have open to you a world of knowledge. It was unfeigned in Abraham Lincoln’s day when he said he taught himself through reading as did a good deal of other early American pioneers. Although they were oftentimes in difficult situations their capacity to read meant they could educate themselves to win a victory over problems. Even in this day of multimedia reading is still the most necessary skill to acquire knowledge. The internet has meant that selective information is freely available to any person who may log on. However to absorb, instruct and learn that info and utilise reading is required. With the advent of web sites and ebooks reading has continued to increase in importance. What reading are you doing?

Instead, it teaches something far more valuable: How to think the right way. And more than that, the author shows you how to apply that thinking to all the practical aspects of an indie writer’s life. And anyway, most “how to” books are of limited use. They may show you how to publish your book, and impart some marketing tips, but most of them will only show you one path – which may or may not be suitable for you. This book teaches you how to find your own path. Scott Nicholson takes a philosophical approach to the writer’s life. Success, for him, is defined by happiness, not sales, ranking, or money. This book is a guide to increasing your professional happiness as a writer. If that all sounds a little Deepak Chopra to you, don’t worry, there is no New Age BS or anything like that. It’s a blueprint for finding out what your own personal writing goals are, and how to achieve them without feeling like a huckster. I read this in about 24 hours, which is the first time I can say that about a non-fiction book – usually I dip in and out of them over time, but this was genuinely gripping. The tone is confident without being pushy, and wise without being “knowing”. The author makes some points which might initially seem counter-intuitive, but he backs them up with logic and by drawing on his extensive experience as a journalist, freelancer, trade published writer, and indie author. People talk about thinking outside the box. Scott Nicholson lives outside the box, and this book is all the richer for it. Do yourself (and your career) a favor – buy this book. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. 5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. |
